Biography
Devin Beliveau
for Maine State Representative in 2010
(Kittery & Kittery Point)

I’m a 4th-generation Mainer.  I graduated from Hall-Dale High School (in Farmingdale, ME) and from Colby College up in Waterville.

My work in public education began after college as an AmeriCorps volunteer.  The year that I spent working for the I Have A Dream Foundation confirmed my belief that education is an incredibly powerful tool for improving people’s lives.  I decided to make it my career.

Over the next few years I worked in schools in Massachusetts and California.  I earned my masters degree in education and my public school social sciences teaching credential from Stanford University.

When a History teaching position opened up at Thornton Academy, I jumped at the opportunity to return to my home state.  I am now in my 5th year of teaching public high school and have taught US History, World History, Government and Economics.  This year I am also co-teaching a class about the potential for renewable energy in Maine.

Last year I was honored when Governor Baldacci appointed me to to serve on the Maine Community College System Board of Trustees.  The MCCS is the fastest growing element of secondary education in Maine, with York County Community College having a particularly bright future.

I am a part-time reporter for The Weekly Sentinel, covering stories in Kittery and southern York County, and serve on the Kittery Energy Advisory Committee (KEAC).

I also spend time:

·   Hiking – I was able to live my dream of “thru-hiking” the Appalachian Trail from Georgia back home to Maine in 2003!

·   Music – I am a member of the “Fore River Boys” Barbershop Quartet, and former member of the Yankee Clipper Chorus.

·   Sports – Debbie and I were captains of a “Seacoast Ultimate” summer league Ultimate Frisbee team last year.  We also enjoy skiing and tennis.
